Kayak Fishing In The New River Gorge Region

SHARE

With SO MUCH WATER in our area, it’s no wonder that there is also a plethora of fishing spots to cast a line in The New River Gorge Region.

Take to the river and check out some of the honey holes on the New River. Head upstream to the Upper New River and check out areas with smallmouth bass, musky, walleye, carp, and catfish. This calm section of river is the perfect place to spend the day fishing. Or, head downstream to the pool above Fayette Station for an easy in, easy out fishing day.

Explore Summersville Lake in your fishing kayak and find perch, walleye, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, and more. This super deep lake is known for its crystal clear blue waters and coves, so you’ll be in a fisherman’s paradise on West Virginia’s largest lake.

Head south of The New River Gorge and fish Plum Orchard Lake, this 202 acre lake in the DNR protected Plum Orchard Lake Wildlife Management Area is host to largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, and channel catfish. This warm water fishing area is known for staying clear, even when other impoundments in the state become muddy from rain.

Head to ACE Adventure Gear in Fayetteville and stock up on all your necessary fishing supplies. Conveniently located nearby Summersville Lake, The New River, and Plum Orchard Lake, you can stop in to demo a fishing kayak so you can hit the water in style. AAG also stocks a huge selection of artificial bait and fly fishing flies, as well as rods, reels, and lures, fishing PFDs, and sun protection.
