Guide to Thread the Needle
This rapid is named for the maneuver made in between two large boulders in the center of the river.
Upper-Mid Level Flows
At high to mid-level flows 32,000 – 7,500(12-4’) , there are strong currents and eddylines here, as well as a wave at the bottom left large enough to flip a raft at the highest levels.
Low Level Flows
Once the water is lower, this is a fun place to swim in between the huge boulders and allow the currents to pull and spin you around. This is also a great place for beginner kayakers to practice pulling in and out of eddys. From the upper beach at Fayette Station, kayakers can easily attain upstream to Thread the Needle.
